Medication policy

medication policy for the proposed service

Medication will only be administered with prior written consent from the appropriate person for valid reasons.

This person should have appropriate authority to sign the consent.

Parents/guardians must inform me about any health conditions, allergies or special requirements in relation to the child’s physical and/or mental care.

My medication policy also includes the following points:

·   If any child requires short term medication, parents/guardians should fill in a medication form.

·   Parents should give the first dose of any medication.

·   If any child requires long term medication, parents/guardians should fill in a medication form and they should give the first dose of any medication.

·   Parents must inform me if their child may require emergency treatment for an existing health problem, and what steps I should take.

·   Any medication should be labelled, with the child’s name, time medication should be given, the dose, expiry date, and how to store it.

·   No medication will be given without written permission from parents/guardians.

·   Records of any child in my care will always be private and confidential and must updated every 6 months on January and July of each year even if the child just joined the care service.

For sun cream, nappy cream, hand cream, and body lotion: if a child requires any of these creams, the parents must provide the cream and written consent for me to apply it. They should also include any details or instructions for use. The parents should open any provided cream and use it on their child before giving it to me.

·   This policy may change or be updated at any point depending on my service needs and if legislation is updated, it will also be reviewed at least once a year.
